Club Statement: Senior International Call Up for First Team Striker, Ali Mohamed

We at Hilltop FC are pleased to announce that one of our players has been called up to join the Somalia senior national team squad in Djibouti ahead of their Arab Cup qualifying clash vs Oman later this month.

Hilltop’s number 9, Ali Mohamed has been named in the Somalia squad for the first time and is the first outfield Hilltop player to be selected for international duty. The striker is photographed above (left) during training with the squad alongside his cousin, Liban Abdulahi (right).

Ali’s late father, who played an important role in building Hilltop to be the club we know today, was a national footballing hero in Somalia. His son now looks to follow in his footsteps to make his mark on the world stage.

The Somali team is currently training in Djibouti before flying to Qatar for their Arab Cup Qualifier vs Oman. They will play against Djibouti on Tuesday evening in preparation for their game.

Somalia made history in 2019 by winning their first-ever competitive fixture. The Ocean Stars will look to upset their opposition in order to qualify for the group stages of the tournament.

We wish Ali and the entire squad the best of luck for their fixture and we hope he returns to Hilltop victorious!
